The Time I Bet On My Quiz Answers

Well, it hasn’t been a week yet, but I’m back again with another post!

The big news of this week was that my class had its first quiz. Personally, it was my first quiz of the entire semester, but also the first time I’ve ever had a quiz like this one. Really… I’ve been in school for 15 years, and I’ve never had this type of quiz.

Okay, okay, so what exactly was the quiz?!- you’re probably wondering.

Let me do my best, trying to explain. It was multiple choice, but I could choose more than one answer. Basically, I had to assign point values to an answer, based on how sure I was that that was the correct answer. Example: If I was 100% sure and confident that “A” was the right answer, I would assign “A,” 4 points (the highest number). The rest of the choices would receive 0. If I was between 2 answers, I could assign, each, 2 points. Make sense? It wasn’t as confusing as it might sound. Although, I admit, it did take me a minute or two to get used to it. I found that I was approaching the quiz as if there could be more than one right answer (like when there’s an “All of the Above” multiple choice option). However, it was a little different than that. Although, jumping ahead a little bit, our professor did let us appeal answers if we thought our answer, which was marked wrong, could arguably be right- but, I’ll get back to that.

So, after I took the quiz individually, I re-took the quiz with my group from last week (plus, two new people who joined!). Together, we determined what answers we thought were correct. When we were done, like I mentioned, we were allowed to write an appeal for one question that we got wrong. I’ll let you know, next week, if we get the points back! Despite the few questions that we had trouble with, we ended up getting the second highest score in class! Not that it’s a competition or anything...

Do I dare say, I didn’t mind taking the quiz? I found that, although it was a new style for me, I felt more comfortable answering. The format basically allowed me to chart out my thought process, instead of committing to one answer that I might not totally be sure about. Maybe my thoughts will change when I see my grade, but for now I’ll stay positive. It’s only the second week.
